Over 100 graduates make up the Class of 2025.

SEMCA Class of 2025 Graduation

More than 700 friends, families and SEMCA supporters attended the graduation ceremony.

This spring, the Southeast Michigan Construction Academy proudly celebrated the achievements of the Class of 2025—a remarkable group of apprentices ready to step into the region’s thriving construction workforce.

Family, friends, instructors and industry leaders gathered to honor this year’s graduates at a ceremony that highlighted not only their technical skills but also their dedication and perseverance. Many have balanced rigorous classroom hours with demanding on-the-job training, showing the commitment and work ethic that sets SEMCA apprentices apart.

“This class represents the future of our industry,” said Keith Ledbetter, President and CEO of ABC SEMI and SEMCA. “They’ve mastered their trades, grown as leaders and are prepared to tackle the critical workforce needs of Michigan’s construction sector. We couldn’t be more proud.”

This year’s graduates completed programs in electrical, carpentry, welding and introduction to the construction trades—trades that are in high demand as the region’s building boom continues. Many will stay on with the contractors who sponsored them throughout their apprenticeship, contributing immediately to projects that shape our communities and local economy.

Jeremiah Watkins walks the stage to get his diploma.

Jeremiah Watkins, an electrical grad, said SEMCA was the right choice he made when it came time to starting a career that supports his family.

“I went to college for a year and it just wasn’t for me. Trade school is one of the best options I think you can have. I feel like I have a real career and my family is so proud of me,” Watkins said. “This is the step along the way, this is the golden path. I appreciate everything the school has done for me.”

SEMCA’s hands-on training approach, combined with classroom instruction from seasoned professionals, ensures that graduates leave with industry-recognized skills and a strong foundation for career advancement. Many alumni have gone on to become foremen, project managers and even business owners —a testament to the power of apprenticeship.

“Give the trades a long, hard look when you’re thinking of your future career,” said 2025 SEMCA graduate Josiah Meiner. “I really enjoy working with my hands, and coming to SEMCA provided a step up from anything you learn in the field. The instructors take time with us and prepare us for any curve we may see on the job.”

The 2025 ceremony was also an opportunity to recognize the instructors and contractor partners whose commitment makes SEMCA’s success possible. Their guidance and investment help bridge the skilled trades gap and keep southeast Michigan building strong.

As we celebrate the Class of 2025, ABC SEMI extends heartfelt congratulations to each graduate. We look forward to seeing where their hard work and talent will take them—and to watching them build the future of our industry, one project at a time.

Congratulations Graduates!
